31st.May, 1898.

Sharp's Buildings having been taken over by

the Naval Authorities, I have the honour to request that au-

thority may be given me for the strip of Colonial land be-

tween the Western Building and Commissariat Offices to be so

far closed as to enable me to arrange for the safe custody of

Naval Stores placed in these buildings. I would also submit

that I may be informed when and under what conditions this

strip of land is likely to be transferred to the Naval Au-

thorities as it would be convenient to have it under their

control with as little delay as practicable.

I have,&c.,

(Sa.) SWINTON C.HOLLAND,

Commodore.

His Excellency

Major-General Wilsone Black, C.B.

Administering the Government of

Hong-Kong.
